Civil Marriage Ceremonies

We are pleased to offer civil marriage ceremonies in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Simple, dignified, and non-denominational marriages are conducted by the City Clerk or designate, and ceremonies are approximately ten to 15 minutes long. There cannot be any religious references during the ceremony due to the civil nature of these services.


The following is required in order to get married at City Hall:

  • A completed Civil Marriage Ceremony Form to be submitted at the time of booking
  • A valid Province of Ontario Marriage Licence (available through the Clerk’s department at City Hall and is required ahead of your ceremony
  • Couples must provide two witnesses (one for each partner) who must be present at the ceremony, as specified in the Marriage Act. The City of Brantford can provide witnesses, upon request, for a fee of $50.00 per witness.

Ceremony details

Short ceremonies are performed on Fridays at 11:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m., and cost $250.00 (plus HST). Please note that a non-refundable payment of $125.00 (plus HST) is required in order to reserve your ceremony. Payment can be made in cash (Canadian funds only), or by debit, Visa, or MasterCard.

On your wedding day

Ceremonies are held in the Council Chambers and friends and family are welcome to attend. There is seating for a maximum of 40 guests. Pictures or videos, or both may be taken during the service provided there is no disruption of the ceremony.
