Dunsdon Street Bike Lane Project

Creating an East-West Cycling Connection

Dunsdon Street is identified in the 2020 Transportation Master Plan (TMP) as one of the many cycling corridors across the City. The TMP recommends that the existing dedicated bike lanes that run from Brantwood Park Road to Park Road North should be extended west from Park Road North to King George Road. The goal is to create an established cycling network to support a safer environment and encourage active transportation.

Currently, the existing cross-section of Dunsdon Street consists of two vehicle travel lanes in each direction, and cyclists have to share these lanes with motorists.

The proposed changes include one bicycle lane and one vehicular lane per direction, with a two-way centre left-turn lane (TWCLTL) from Park Road North to Memorial Drive and a dedicated parking lane from Memorial Drive to King George Road. A one metre buffer will separate the bike lane and parked vehicles.

Curb to curb road widths will remain the same and there will be no modifications to sidewalks or private properties. Traffic control at intersections along the corridor will also remain the same.

Construction Impacts

The construction impact of this project is expected to be minimal. There is no civil work involved with this project. Pavement marking, grinding, and remarking will take place overnight to limit the impact to vehicle traffic. Signage will also be modified to be consistent with the new road design.
