History
The Brantford Labour Council led a drive to raise money to build the Civic Centre in 1963 along with help from the Brantford Jaycees. Volunteers carried out the drive and over $250,000.00 was raised during the first phase of the campaign. A Centennial Grant of $175,000.00 was also received.
The committee eventually turned the project over to the City of Brantford after the Ontario Municipal Board issued conditions that the local government must back and operate the project.
The final project finished in 1967 and our official opening was on March 25 and 26, 1967.
There have been several updates to the Civic Centre over the past five years including:
- Renovated front lobby with new front doors, flooring, accessible ramp and exterior stairs
- New stadium seating
- Accessible lift to connect the arena with the auditorium
- New interior and exterior doors throughout the facility
- Replaced all exterior stairs and railings
