Community Peace Mural
Project Summary
The City of Brantford is working with with a professional muralist and workshop facilitator, Yasaman Mehrsa, to create a collaborative Community Peace Mural. Yasaman will work closely with community members to design and create a Community Peace Mural by hosting five public workshops.
The overall theme for this mural project is unity through our differences, celebrating the real human stories behind our increasingly diverse community. The idea for a Community Peace Mural project took inspiration from the Pieces for Peace project, a collaborative effort supported by the City of Brantford, the Laurier Hub for Community Solutions, the Brantford Immigration Partnership, and other partners. The Community Peace Mural is an artistic opportunity for residents from diverse background to share their stories and perspectives.
Mural Location
The finished mural will be located on the wall to the right of the stairs ascending from the Market St. Parkade to Colborne St. E. The surface area of the mural location is 54.55 m2.
How to Contribute to the Mural
Community members are encouraged to contribute to the mural by participating in any of the five mural workshops being hosted by the project’s Artist/Workshop Facilitator. At these workshops, community members will be able to share imagery that symbolizes their unique identifies, cultures, and experiences, incorporating them into the final mural design. Registration for these workshops is encouraged, but not required.
Public Mural Workshops Schedule
All of the workshops will take place at Community Living Brant – The Dunn Building, located at 440 Elgin St. There is onsite parking and a sheltered bus stop in front of the building (Dunn Building stop).

About the Artist/Workshop Facilitator
Yasaman Mehrsa is an Iranian-Canadian visual artist with a focus on public art based in Toronto, Canada. Born and raised in Tehran, she was exposed to art from a young age. She completed her studies with a Bachelor of Visual Communication in Iran and later achieved Bachelor with honours in Visual Arts from Brock University in St. Catharines, Canada.
Yasaman's work is illustrative in style with a focus on storytelling and exploring all facets of life and being human in a natural environment. Her work is often representative of awareness of the human-nature relationship. Inspired by nature, she creates whimsical and vibrant art and expresses different emotions to inspire her audiences to discover their imagination, feeling, and interaction with the natural environment. Yasaman's ambition is to contribute to public art, be creative in beautifying public places, envision place-making, and be active in community engagement art-making.
She has worked on various public art projects for organizations and communities inside and outside Canada. She has painted murals on walls as tall as three stories high, windows, grounds, boxes, doors, stairs, objects and other forms of public art. She has participated in several mural festivals and events. She likes travelling to different countries, provinces, and cities, exploring their cultures, connecting with people, getting inspired by their heritage and creating public art. She has also mentored and instructed junior artists, mentees, and art students. She has experience with community art consultation and public art engagement.
