Brantford recognized as second community in Canada to confirm unsheltered quality by-name data 4.0

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford has achieved a significant milestone to better understand and address homelessness. Built for Zero Canada (BFZ-C) has formally recognized the City of Brantford for confirming Unsheltered Quality By-Name Data (QBND) 4.0, making the community the second in Canada to achieve this designation, as recognized by the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH).

Achieving the Unsheltered QBND 4.0 standard requires communities to meet rigorous data standards. The City of Brantford first completed a self-assessment of all “additional foundational elements of unsheltered homelessness” within the QBND 4.0 scorecard in December 2025. This assessment was independently confirmed by BFZ-C in January 2026. In addition, through monthly data submissions, Brantford demonstrated more than three consecutive months of reliable, verified unsheltered by-name data.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and professionalism of City of Brantford staff who work every day to respond to homelessness in our community,” said Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis. “Having reliable, real-time data allows us to better understand the needs in our community and ensures the decisions are guided by comprehensive evidence, not assumptions.”

As the Consolidated Municipal Service Manager for Brantford and the County of Brant, the City of Brantford oversees housing and homelessness services, Ontario Works, and children’s services across both communities. With all requirements now met, this recognition confirms that the City of Brantford has reliable, real-time data to understand the scope of unsheltered homelessness in Brantford and the County of Brant. By maintaining a by-name list, the City has current and detailed information to be able to match housing solutions with the unique needs of individuals.

The data will help improve coordination of housing and support services, inform continuous improvement efforts, monitor trends and progress over time, optimize local service delivery, and advocate for resources based on concrete data. This achievement reflects the collective efforts of local partners, service providers, and City staff working together to improve outcomes for people experiencing homelessness and to ensure responses are informed by accurate, up-to-date information.
