City of Brantford launches Safety Stick Pilot Project at local schools
BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford’s Parking Enforcement team has launched a Safety Stick Pilot Project at King George School, St. Basil School, and Walter Gretzky Elementary School to help improve safety in school zones.
Safety Sticks are being tested as parking enforcement tools that use technology to detect when vehicles stop or park in prohibited areas. These areas are in place to help protect children, pedestrians, and to maintain safe and efficient operation of the roadway. No infractions will be issued as a result of this project.
Parking violations near schools are a frequent concern, and officers cannot always be on site during peak periods. Data collected through the Safety Sticks could help the City identify when and where violations occur, supporting a more targeted approach to enforcement.
The pilot is being provided at no cost to the City by Municipal Parking Services Inc. Results from the pilot will be reviewed over the coming months to determine the program’s effectiveness before any decisions are made about expanding to other locations.
Residents are reminded to follow posted parking regulations at all times to help keep school zones safe for everyone.
