Filing your taxes ensures access to important financial benefits
BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford encourages all residents to file their taxes to ensure continued access to essential financial benefits. It is estimated that approximately 20% of low-income households do not file their taxes, which may result in lost opportunities for critical income supports.
Filing a tax return is necessary to receive benefits such as the GST/HST credit, the Canada Child Benefit, the Ontario Trillium Benefit and other federal and provincial programs designed to assist and support individuals and families with the cost of living. The Benefits Wayfinder by Prosper Canada helps people find which benefits they may be eligible for. Even if an individual has little or no income to report, submitting a tax return ensures they remain eligible for these important financial supports.
The Canadian Revenue Agency provides tax filing resources and a list of free local community tax clinics.
