Public Safety Notice: Reminder to residents about legitimate Fire Department Smoke Alarm checks

The City of Brantford is advising residents to remain alert following reports of individuals going door-to-door claiming to represent the Brantford Fire Department and offering to check smoke alarms.

The City would like to remind residents that the fire department does conduct door-to-door smoke alarm inspections as part of its Smoke Alarms Save Lives program. These visits are intended to help ensure working smoke alarms are installed and to improve fire safety in the community.

However, residents should be aware that legitimate Brantford Fire Department personnel will always be in uniform and will arrive in clearly marked fire department vehicles.

Residents are encouraged not to allow entry to anyone claiming to be with the fire department if they are not clearly identified or if something does not feel right. If there is any uncertainty, residents should contact the fire department directly at 519-752-0540 to verify the visit.

The City thanks residents for their cooperation in helping keep the community safe.
