Seasonal protection of the Field Howitzer Cannon

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford has scheduled seasonal protective wrapping of the German Field Howitzer Cannon, located in Jubilee Terrace Park. The protective covering will be added on November 22, 2025, and remain in place until April 2026 to help preserve and prevent deterioration of the cannon over the winter season.

As the cannon remains outdoors, annual wrapping is required to shield it from snowmelt and salt spray, which are highly corrosive and can cause significant damage. The cannon’s outdoor location near a busy intersection makes it vulnerable to road spray and accumulated snow, which can accelerate corrosion. Additionally, the wrapping prevents rust staining on the new concrete pad beneath the cannon.

These conservation measures are essential to stabilize the cannon and protect it from further deterioration. Learn more about the City of Brantford’s Public Art collection at www.Brantford.ca/PublicArt.
