City of Brantford and Wilfrid Laurier University announce the Fall 2025 International Film Series

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford Campus, is pleased to announce the continuation of the International Film Series with six free screenings taking place between September and December 2025.

“The International Film Series continues to offer community members from all walks of life with the opportunity to experience diverse cinematic art presented in multiple languages,” says Dr. Christina Han, an associate professor of History and Director of the Hub for Community Solutions at Wilfrid Laurier University. “The screenings have cultivated a strong sense of community, drawing regular attendees ranging from youth at the downtown campuses to seniors from the nearby Beckett Recreation Centre.”

Each film in the series represents a different culture, with some aligning on days of significance. An introduction and discussion about the film will be held prior to each screening. The series will take place at the Steven and Helen Kun Theatre, located at in the Research and Academic Centre,150 Dalhousie St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the films beginning at 7 p.m. Registration is not required and light refreshments will be provided.

  • “The Artist” (France) Thursday, September 18
  • “Cinema Pardiso” (Italy) Thursday, October 2
  • “Flee” (Denmark) Thursday, October 23
  • “Coming Home” (China) Thursday, November 6
  • “The Father” (United Kingdom) Thursday, November 20
  • “Io Capitano” (Italy, Belgium, France) Thursday, December 4

“The films we’ve selected explore relatable themes like coming of age, overcoming hardship, and finding community,” says Taylor Berzins, Community Initiatives Coordinator at the City of Brantford. ”We hope filmgoers leave each screening with a sense of connection.”

Since the launch of the series in 2023, over 600 people have attended to watch films representing thirteen different countries. This project continues to support the goals of the Brantford Immigration Partnership and OneBrantford: Inclusive City Strategy by providing opportunities for Brantford residents to engage in cultural experiences and celebrate diverse stories and perspectives.
