Nominations open for 2026 Brantford Accessibility Improvement Awards

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with the Brantford Accessibility Advisory Committee (BAAC), is proud to announce that nominations are now open for the 2026 City of Brantford Accessibility Improvement Awards. The awards annually recognize and celebrate a person, group or organization that has made, or is in the process of making, a significant contribution towards improving accessibility in Brantford.
Residents, businesses and organizations are encouraged to nominate themselves or others by visiting www.Brantford.ca/AccessibilityAwards.
“We are proud to formally recognize and celebrate community members who are championing inclusivity and working to provide a barrier-free environment for all,” says Jenny Sawicki, City of Brantford Accessibility Coordinator. “These awards not only commemorate outstanding achievements in accessibility but also inspire continual efforts to create lasting positive change for those with a disability.”
Nominations must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026. The City of Brantford Accessibility Coordinator and members of BAAC evaluate the nominations based on specific criteria and awards will be presented in the following categories:
- Customer Service: An organization, business and/or individual that demonstrates leadership in providing exceptional customer service to persons with disabilities.
- Transportation: An organization, business and/or individual that demonstrates leadership in advancing access to transportation for persons with disabilities.
- Information and Communication: An organization, business and/or individual that demonstrates leadership in providing information and communication supports to persons with disabilities.
- Employment: An organization, business and/or individual that provides meaningful employment opportunities and demonstrates flexible and respectful integration of people with disabilities into their workforce.
- Built Environment: A building, interior, exterior or outdoor space designed or renovated to eliminate barriers and/or enhance access for persons with disabilities.
City of Brantford staff are eligible to receive a Recognition of Staff Leadership in Accessibility as part of the Accessibility Awards program. To maintain the integrity and community-driven nature of the program, nominations for staff must be submitted by members of the public.
The award recipients will be announced during the Brantford City Council meeting held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and be publicly recognized during National AccessAbility Week from May 24 to 30, 2026.
