Notice of Study Completion Wayne Gretzky Parkway North Extension

Project Information

The City of Brantford (City) has conducted a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study for the Wayne Gretzky Parkway North Extension. A northern extension of the Wayne Gretzky Parkway was identified in the 2020 Transportation Master Plan (TMP) to provide optimization of the transportation network as an interregional travel route accessing the provincial highways to and from the north part of the City. Wayne Gretzky Parkway serves as a major north-south connection though the City. The corridor also conveys the traffic from downtown Brantford to Highway 403 and other major east-west transportation corridors.

To support the City’s planning and decision making, the MECA Study examines the feasibility of the Wayne Gretzky Parkway extension alignment. The study identified and evaluated alternative solutions to extend transportation services through the North Expansion Lands, to improve and expand the overall transportation network, to service the Designated Greenfield Areas development, and to improve the City and regional traffic in the future.

The Process

The City has completed the Wayne Gretzky Parkway North Extension MCEA, in accordance with the planning and design process for a Schedule “C” project as outlined in the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document, which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. A key component of the MCEA is consultation with interested stakeholders and community members, including public, agencies and Indigenous peoples.

Preferred Design Concept

The study identified extending Wayne Gretzky Parkway north of Powerline Road with a curved transition to Park Road North, and forming a new four-leg junction with the future east-west collector road, as the preferred alignment. This alignment includes a 2-lane roundabout at the Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Powerline Road intersection, and a 2-lane roundabout at the future east-west collector road intersection. This concept considers terminating Park Road North, south of the future east-west collector road.
