1,800 residents participate in City’s community cleanup
BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is proud to announce that nearly 1,800 residents participated in the fifth annual Let’s Clean Our City community cleanup, including neighbourhood associations, organizations and schools. Between Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Brantford community collected an astounding total of 1,160 kilograms of litter throughout the city in honour of Earth Day.
“This year we collected more litter than the last two year cleanups combined,” says Sue Brocklebank, Climate Change Officer, City of Brantford. “We are incredibly proud of the community for coming together to keep Brantford cleaner and greener.”
The City provided over 1,000 free cleanup kits to residents who were encouraged to collect litter in their neighbourhood and dispose of it in their regular garbage collection, while larger cleanups could bring their collected litter to one of three disposal areas located throughout the city. A total of 1,160 kilograms of litter was collected between the disposal areas and taken to the Mohawk Street Landfill by City of Brantford staff.
The cleanup also included a contest where participants could submit photos for the chance to win prizes. Over 20 individuals, groups, neighbourhood associations, organizations and schools participated in the contest. The winners for each category are:
- Jennifer Bell and her children Nazzy, Zion, Zakhariya, and Sincere won a $50.00 gift card to a local business of their choice.
- Grandwoodlands Neighbourhood Association won a $500 prize to be spent on an environmental initiative in their neighbourhood.
- P&G Brantford won a $500.00 cash donation to a local charity of their choice.
- École Dufferin Public School won $500 to be spent on an environmental initiative or cash donation to a local charity of their choice.
The Let’s Clean Our City campaign is a Clean Brantford initiative aimed at keeping the City free of litter. Learn more about the City of Brantford’s environmental initiatives at Brantford.ca/ClimateAction.
