2026 Municipal Election Notice of Nomination for Office
Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (s. 32)
Notice is hereby given to the Municipal Electors of the City of Brantford that every person who proposes to be a candidate for any office in the 2026 Municipal Election to be held in the City of Brantford on Monday, October 26, 2026, must file a Nomination Paper with the City Clerk responsible for the 2026 Election.
Nomination Papers may be filed on or after Friday, May 1, 2026, through to and including Thursday, August 20, 2026, during normal business hours, and on Friday, August 21, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Candidates must file their nomination in person at Brantford City Hall, 58 Dalhousie Street, Brantford, during regular business hours of Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (excluding statutory holidays).
A Nomination Paper must be accompanied by:
- a filing fee of $200.00 for the office of Mayor or $100.00 for all other offices, payable to the City of Brantford by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order;
- consent to the nomination and a declaration of qualification, both on the prescribed form, signed by the person being nominated; and
- 25 endorsement signatures, in the prescribed form, by voters eligible in the City of Brantford (required for Council positions only and not required for Trustee positions).
Nominations may be filed for the following offices:
· Mayor – 1 to be elected at large.
· Councillor – Wards 1 through 5 –2 per ward to be elected.
· Trustee – Grand Erie District School Board – 4 to be elected at large.
· Trustee – Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board – 2 to be elected at large.
· Trustee – Conseil scolaire Viamonde – 1 to be elected at large.
· Trustee – Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir – 1 to be elected at large.
No person who proposes to be a candidate may accept contributions for the purpose of the election or incur campaign expenses until that person has filed a completed Nomination Paper.
Candidate Application Packages are available at, City Hall, 58 Dalhousie Street, Brantford, during regular business hours, and candidate information is also available at Brantford.ca/Election.
