Candidate and third party advertisers information session for the 2026 Municipal Election

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford will host a Candidate Information Night for individuals who intend to file a nomination and run in the 2026 Municipal Election, or who intend to register as a third party advertiser. 

This session will provide practical information about the election process and the rules and obligations for candidates and third party advertisers, including nomination and registration, campaign rules, campaign finances, and compliance.

Presentations will be provided by representatives from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the City of Brantford Clerk’s Department, and the City’s By-law Department. A moderated question period will follow.

Topics will include:

• roles and responsibilities of elected officials and City staff
• eligibility rules
• nomination process and key timelines
• registration process for third party advertisers
• campaign finances and financial reporting requirements
• compliance audit process
• voters’ list, voting by proxy, and related rules
• scrutineers and election-day procedures
• recounts
• election compliance

Session details

Virtual participation is available by Zoom. Advance registration is required for virtual attendance. Registration is not required to attend in person.

This session is for educational purposes only. Attendance does not constitute filing nomination papers and does not confirm eligibility to run for office.
