City and County sign MOU for proposed Brantford Municipal Airport boundary adjustment
BRANTFORD, ON: The City of Brantford and the County of Brant have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlines proposed terms for a municipal boundary adjustment involving the Brantford Municipal Airport and surrounding lands. Members of Brantford City Council and the County of Brant Council, with the assistance of the Provincial Land and Development facilitator have negotiated the terms and conditions of a municipal boundary adjustment outlined in the MOU. As a next step, both Councils will consider feedback from the public.
The Brantford Municipal Airport is owned by the City of Brantford and serves the broader Brantford-Brant region. The airport supports general aviation, private and corporate travel, aircraft storage, parts and maintenance, flight training, medical transport, logistics, filming, recreation, and aviation-related businesses. The City’s Economic Development Strategy identifies the airport as an important economic development asset with significant long-term potential.
The proposed boundary adjustment would bring the Brantford Municipal Airport and a surrounding land area into the City of Brantford. The transfer lands comprise approximately 1,317 acres and are intended to support the long-term planning, governance, servicing, and economic development of the airport lands.
The MOU sets out proposed terms and a path forward; however, additional steps are required, including public engagement, continued discussions between the City and County, statutory public hearings, and formal Council consideration by both municipalities of a formal restructuring agreement.
Public engagement opportunities
Residents, landowners, businesses and stakeholders are invited to learn more, ask questions and provide comments through the City’s online engagement platform at LetsTalkBrantford.ca/Airport.
The Let’s Talk Brantford project page includes project information, a map of the proposed boundary adjustment, frequently asked questions, background documents, in person engagement opportunities, and online tools to submit questions and comments.
Two public open houses will also be held:
Thursday June 11, 2026 - 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Thursday June 11, 2026 - 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course, 320 Balmoral Drive, Brantford
Following the public engagement period, City and County staff will review public feedback received through Let’s Talk Brantford and the open houses. Public participation will also be invited through statutory public hearings, anticipated during the week of July 6, 2026, with dates to be confirmed and promoted to City and County residents. This feedback will inform the content of a boundary adjustment agreement for consideration by each municipal Council.
Should an agreement be approved by both Councils, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing could consider making an order to implement the municipal boundary adjustment.
