Committee unanimously endorses new Brantford indoor turf sports facility

BRANTFORD, ON – At their Committee of the Whole meeting on June 16, Brantford City Council unanimously endorsed the development of a new, state-of-the art indoor turf sports facility that will expand year-round recreation and athletic opportunities in the community. Expected to open in fall 2027, the 60,000 square-foot air-supported dome will be located at Jaycee Sports Park, 395 Dunsdon St. The facility will provide year-round access to indoor turf space for local athletes, sport organizations, residents, and community groups.

“This project is an investment in the future of sport and recreation in Brantford,” said Mayor Kevin Davis. “Residents and local sports organizations have consistently identified the need for year-round indoor training space. The indoor turf sports facility will provide opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to stay active, train locally, and compete year-round, while also attracting sport tourism opportunities that will benefit our community and local economy.”

The new facility would include three artificial turf fields, change rooms, and a concession area, creating a flexible space for training, skill development, camps, clinics, league play, tournaments, and community programming.

The project responds to a need identified through public consultation and extensive consultation with local sports organizations over the past three years as part of the City’s Parks and Recreation Allocation Policy and Parks and Recreation Master Plan Addendum. Organizations including the Brantford City Soccer Club and Brantford Minor Baseball Association have identified indoor turf space as a key priority to support year-round sport development in the community.

“The new indoor turf sports facility will allow Brantford City Soccer to reintroduce indoor soccer programming for 700 additional participants and will make a world of difference to the young athletes across our community who dream of being professional athletes, says Rob Coleman, President of the Brantford City Soccer Club. “We thank the City of Brantford for its commitment to investing in recreation, sport and active living, and for supporting the future of soccer in our community.”

The indoor turf sports facility builds on the City of Brantford’s continued investment in recreation and sport, alongside existing facilities such as the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, lawn bowling, pickleball and tennis amenities, the redevelopment of Woodman Park, and the City’s expanding network of parks, trails, and riverfront connections. It also complements other major projects in development, including the Blanche E. Williams Community Centre and the future Brantford Sports and Entertainment Centre. Together, these investments further strengthen Brantford’s reputation as a premier destination for recreation, sport, and active living.

The new indoor turf sports facility project will be considered for final approval by Brantford City Council at their City Council meeting on June 23, 2026.
