International Film Series announces 2026/2027 season lineup

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus, is pleased to announce the return of the free International Film Series, that showcases culturally diverse films and engages attendees in impactful discussions prior to the screening. The 2026/2027 season will take place between September and April and includes a lineup of award-winning films from across the globe.

"The International Film Series provides a welcoming space where students, older adults, and community members can explore diverse cultures together, build relationships, and broaden their understanding of the world and one another,” says Pamela Pacheo, Manager of Strategic Initiatives, City of Brantford. “Some of the most valuable conversations happen when people from different generations have the opportunity to connect and share their experiences.”

Fall 2026 International Film Series Lineup                                                                 

• September 24 – The Conformist (Italy)
• October 8 – No (Chile)
• October 22 – My Name is Khan (India)
• November 5 – 20,000 Species of Bees (Spain)
• November 19 – Lion (India/Australia)
• December 3 – The Man Who Sold His Skin (Tunisia/International)

Winter 2027 International Film Series Lineup

•  January 21 – Son of Saul (Hungary)
• February 4 – Rafiki (Kenya)
• February 25 – Portrait of a Lady on Fire (France)
• March 11 – The Worst Person in the World (Norway)
• March 25 – Mellow Mud (Latvia)
• April 8 – Wild Strawberries (Sweden)

"Film has a unique ability to connect people through shared stories and experiences," says Christina Han- Director, Laurier Hub for Community Solutions. "This series creates opportunities for community members to engage with diverse perspectives and cultures while enjoying world-class cinema together."

The screenings will take place at the Steven and Helen Kun Theatre, located at in the Research and Academic Centre,150 Dalhousie St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the films beginning at 7 p.m. Registration is not required, and light refreshments are provided.

Since its launch in 2023, the International Film Series has included 34 films from 21 countries, allowing community members the opportunities to explore global perspectives while building local connections. The program aligns with Brantford's OneBrantford: Inclusive City Strategy and the Brantford Immigration Partnership's vision of an inclusive and welcoming community by encouraging residents to learn from one another, celebrate diversity, and engage in meaningful cross-cultural dialogue. As an extension of this year's Welcoming Week celebrations, the September 24 season launch offers another opportunity for residents to come together, foster belonging, and recognize the value of diverse perspectives in our community.
