Silvercreek Crossing Pedestrian Bridge reopened following emergency repairs
BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is pleased to announce that the Silvercreek Crossing Pedestrian Bridge, located between Ludlow Crescent and Hackney Ridge, reopened to the public on Friday, September 4, 2026, following the successful completion of emergency stabilization work.
Emergency stabilization work completed
The City’s contractor, Decew Construction Inc., has completed emergency stabilization repairs, which included:
- repairing eroded soil beneath the bridge footing;
- installing an erosion cut-off wall; and
- placing riprap around the footing to protect against scour and erosion.
The completed repairs have been reviewed by the City’s structural engineering consultant, who has confirmed that the bridge can be safely reopened for public use.
Remaining restoration work
Minor site restoration activities remain outstanding and are expected to be completed during the coming week, weather permitting. This work includes hydroseeding and restoration of disturbed areas adjacent to the construction site and is not expected to impact public access to the bridge.
Ongoing bridge inspections
The City conducts inspections of its bridge structures every two years as part of its ongoing asset management program. Recommendations identified through these inspections are implemented to preserve and maintain City infrastructure, including routine maintenance, and any actions required to address immediate concerns.
The City thanks residents for their patience, understanding and cooperation during the bridge closure. The reopening of the Silvercreek Crossing Pedestrian Bridge restores an important pedestrian connection within the community while supporting the continued safety and long-term serviceability of the structure.
