Residents invited to Welcoming Week activities
BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford and Brantford Immigration Partnership, in collaboration with community partners, invite residents to participate in Welcoming Week, an annual national and international celebration of events and initiatives that foster community connections and belonging for all.
“Welcoming Week highlights the City of Brantford’s commitment to being an inclusive and welcoming community,” says Lauren Papadopoulos, Corporate Initiatives Coordinator at the City of Brantford. “We are proud to offer a series of free workshops that incorporate the diverse cultures of Brantford’s residents.”
Welcoming Week events
- A Welcoming Week information table will kick off the week with information about Welcoming Week, the Brantford Immigration Partnership, and all the exciting local events. This tabling will take place on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Brantford Public Library, located at 173 Colbourne St, Brantford.
- A Bollywood dance workshop takes place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre Gymnasium, located at 491 Grey St, Brantford. Registration required.
- A painting workshop led by Indigenous artist Alicia Land is happening on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at T.B. Costain, located at 16 Morrell St, Brantford. Registration required.
- A 2SLGBTQIA+ social takes place on Monday, September 14, 2026, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Sassy Britches Brewing, located at 111 Sherwood Dr #4, Brantford. This is a weekly social event hosted by Brantford Pride.
- Steps to Employment is being hosted in partnership with the Town and Gown Committee, Community Resource Service, Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie, and more. This event offers students and newcomers support in accessing opportunities related to employment and volunteering roles. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gihekdagye Friendship Centre, located at 274 Colborne Street, Brantford. Attendee registration and booth registration required.
- The International Film Series is returning with The Laurier Hub for Community Solutions, in partnership with Wilfrid Laurier University and the City of Brantford. Join the first screening of the fall on September 24, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., located at Steven and Helen Kun Theatre (RCW 002), 150 Dalhousie St, Brantford.
Welcoming Week reflects the City of Brantford’s commitment to being an inclusive and welcoming community, and further supports the actions outlined in the Brantford Immigration Partnership Community Action Plan and OneBrantford: Inclusive City Strategy.
