Silvercreek Crossing Pedestrian Bridge temporarily closed for emergency repair
BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford has temporarily closed the Silvercreek Crossing Pedestrian Bridge, located between Ludlow Crescent and Hackney Ridge, due to a structural concern that requires immediate stabilization work.
Emergency repairs are anticipated to begin this week and be completed the week of September 8, weather permitting. The bridge will remain closed to the public while this work is underway.
The bridge was closed on June 26, 2026, after an engineering investigation identified active erosion and undermining of the footing supporting the bridge's northern pier. A subsequent structural review determined that the condition presented a risk to the stability of the structure and supported its immediate closure as a precaution to protect public safety.
Following the closure, the City worked to expedite the design of the necessary structural repairs and the procurement of a contractor so the bridge can be safely reopened as soon as possible.
Emergency stabilization work
The City’s contractor, Decew Construction Inc., will complete emergency stabilization repairs that include:
- repairing eroded soils beneath the bridge footing;
- installing an erosion cut-off wall; and
- grading around the footing with riprap for scour protection.
Ongoing bridge inspections
The City conducts inspections of its bridge structures every two years as part of its ongoing asset management program. Recommendations identified through these inspections are implemented to preserve and maintain City infrastructure, including routine maintenance, and any actions required to address immediate concerns.
We understand the inconvenience these temporary closures may pose and sincerely appreciate the public's understanding and patience. The City of Brantford remains dedicated to maintaining our infrastructure for the benefit of all residents.
