The City of Brantford is giving away 265 free trees to residents

BRANTFORD, ON- The City of Brantford is hosting a free tree giveaway event to help homeowners plant more trees and support climate action. A total of 265 free trees will be available for residents to plant on their residential property. Residents must register online and can select from one of six free tree species that best suit the conditions at their property.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, residents can register online at www.Brantford.ca/FreeTrees to choose from six different tree species and select a preferred pick-up time. There are 265 total trees available on a first come, first serve basis. Trees must be collected on Friday, October 2 or Saturday, October 3, 2026 between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. at 1 Sherwood Drive in Brantford. Signs will be posted along the pick-up drive-through route to help with traffic flow and expedite wait times. City staff will help load the free tree into each vehicle.

To receive a free tree, Brantford residents must meet the following criteria:

• The tree must be planted on a City of Brantford residential property
• You must be a resident of the City of Brantford to qualify for a free tree
• Permission from the property owner must be obtained before planting the tree if you do not own the property
• Limit of one tree per household

Available tree species include Swamp White Oak, Tulip, Flowering Dogwood, Yellow Birch, or Eastern Redbud. Trees can vary in their full-grown height depending on growing conditions. Residents are encouraged to carefully review the tree details outlined on www.Brantford.ca/FreeTrees and select one that bests suits their yard.
