Veterans Memorial Parkway Municipal Class EA Notice of Study Commencement and Public Information Centre 1

The Study

The City of Brantford (City) has initiated a comprehensive Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) for improvements along Veterans Memorial Parkway from Mount Pleasant Street to Erie Avenue. This Study is required to address long-term transportation needs identified in the City’s Transportation Master Plans (2014 and updated 2020), including increased capacity at the Grand River and Market Street crossings, widening Veterans Memorial Parkway, and reviewing associated ramps, structures and active transportation facilities. Potential alternatives will consider traffic safety, traffic flow, property access and future development patterns.

Study Area

Veterans Memorial Parkway is a critical east-west transportation corridor serving the southern and western areas of the City. Originally conceived as part of the Brantford Southern Access Road, Veterans Memorial Parkway now functions as a major arterial link between Colborne Street West and Erie Avenue, providing access across the Grand River and connecting residential neighbourhoods, industrial lands and regional routes.

The Process

The Study is following a ‘Schedule C’ process in accordance with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process (October 2000, as amended in 2007, 2011, 2015, 2023 and 2024), which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. The project team will examine a full range of alternatives and identify a preferred solution and design concept to address the project’s needs. The project will include extensive consultation with the public, agencies and Indigenous communities.

We Want to Hear From You!

Consultation with the public, Indigenous Peoples, agencies and stakeholder groups is a key element of the Study. Two Public Information Centre (PIC) meetings are planned throughout the course of the Study. Details for the first PIC are provided below:
