Development charges are adjusted annually and assist in financial capital projects required to meet the increased need for services resulting from growth and development. Development charges must be made prior to a building permit being issued. Please refer to our list of current development charges

Development Charges Background Study

The Development Charges Background Study:

  • Prepares a growth forecast and capital program needed to service this growth.
  • Calculates development charges consistent with the Development Charges Act, 1997 (DCA) and its associated Regulation.
  • Reviews current Development Charges policies and develops new develop charges by-law(s) and policies which conform to the DCA

2018/2019 Development Charges Background Study

In accordance with the requirements of the Development Charges Act, 1997, the City’s current development charges by-law is in force and effect for a period of five years and will expire on April 22, 2019. The new Development Charges Background Study and proposed by-law is available for review online and in-person at City Hall.

Public Meetings

The public is invited to review and provide comments on the 2019 Development Charges Background study, related staff reports and the proposed development charges by-law. Anyone interested is invited to attend the next public meeting.

Passing of Development Charges Bylaw 38-2014

The Council of the Corporation of the City of Brantford passed Development Charges Bylaw 38-2014 on April 22, 2014 pursuant to the Development Charges Act, 1997 and was adopted as Chapter 261 of the City of Brantford Municipal Code.
