Garbage and Recycling

Residents can set out up to five containers or bags of garbage each week. Each container must weigh less than 25 kg (55 lbs). Your garbage must be to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day, but not before 7:00 p.m. the night before.

There are no changes to waste collection on most holidays. Your waste collection will occur one day later than regularly scheduled if it falls on or after these holidays: Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year's Day (January 1). Use the Recycle Coach app and never miss another collection. With the easy-to-use calendar you can find your upcoming collection schedule simply by searching your home address.

Residents are reminded that vehicles parked illegally on City streets can hinder collection vehicles from servicing residents. Please obey signage on your street to ensure collection can occur safely and efficiently.

Merry Mulch

The City's Merry Mulch program takes place January 6-17, 2025. Only Christmas trees placed out during this time will be collected. After the 17th residents will be responsible for disposing of trees themselves. Place your tree visible at the curb before 7:00 a.m. to take advantage of our Merry Mulch program. Please remember to remove ornaments, tinsel, tree stands and plastic bags from Christmas trees. Christmas trees longer than 8’ must be cut in half. The Mohawk Street Landfill site is closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Report a missed collection

Residents are reminded that the City’s Collection Contractor has until 5 p.m. to complete collection activities on collection days. Please note that the City will only accept reports of missed collection the morning after a resident’s scheduled collection day.

Chapter 440 of the City of Brantford Municipal Code regulates landfill and curbside collection of garbage waste in Brantford. Residents must comply by properly preparing their garbage and recycling.
