Garbage and Recycling

Residents can set out up to five containers or bags of garbage each week. Each container must weigh less than 25 kg (55 lbs). Your garbage must be to the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day, but not before 7:00 p.m. the night before.

There are no changes to waste collection on most holidays. Your waste collection will occur one day later than regularly scheduled if it falls on or after these holidays: Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year's Day (January 1). Use the Recycle Coach app and never miss another collection. With the easy-to-use calendar you can find your upcoming collection schedule simply by searching your home address.

Residents are reminded that vehicles parked illegally on City streets can hinder collection vehicles from servicing residents. Please obey signage on your street to ensure collection can occur safely and efficiently.

Winter Collection Tips

With snow and high winds expected over the course of the winter season, here are some reminders when setting out garbage and recycling in winter weather conditions:

  • If snow or heavy winds are expected overnight, wait until just before 7 a.m. on your collection day to place garbage, green bin and blue boxes at the curb. All materials must be set out by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day.
  • Place heaviest recycling items on the top of lighter materials to help keep materials from blowing out of the blue box.
  • Keep recyclables below the rim of the blue box.
  • Don’t use garbage bins or cans. Plastic containers do not stand up well in these conditions, use garbage bags instead so containers won’t get damaged and blow around once emptied.
  • Do not use white coloured garbage bags.
  • Clear a spot for your garbage, green bin and blue boxes that is free of snow and easy for collectors to see.
  • Don't place your waste bins or bags on top of or behind snowbanks.
