Safe Brantford

We have supported a number of projects including the Brant Community Response Team, Brantford-Brant Community Drugs Strategy, Coordinated Youth Services Strategy and the Community Strategy to Prevent and Address Elder Abuse.

The Brantford-Brant Community Drugs Strategy was developed to address higher-than-average use of illicit drugs, changes to marijuana legislation, and the growing misuse of prescription and non-prescription opioids.

The strategy highlights ways to make immediate change, including:

  • access to pain management clinics
  • youth-focused addictions counselling
  • increasing public education and awareness
  • increasing access to long-term counselling
  • more support for individuals experiencing trauma or grief
  • increasing treatment and mental health supports for persons in jail
  • more investment in peer support programs

We are one of the first communities in Ontario to develop a strategy focused on the impact of elder abuse.

Right Now: A Community Strategy to Prevent and Address Elder Abuse provides recommendations and actions based on consultations with older adults, caregivers, and service providers across the City of Brantford and the County of Brant.

We are working to ensure Brantford's seniors remain included in the social and economic life of their community, which is a significant protective factor against elder abuse.
