Social media is a major part of how the City of Brantford connects with residents, visitors, investors and media, sharing real-time information on programs, services, news, events and during emergency response. City of Brantford staff monitor accounts during weekday business hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For City service emergencies after hours involving roads, water mains, sewers and more, please call 519-759-4150.

The intent of the City of Brantford’s social media channels is to update the public on services, events and programs, and respond to inquiries. The City of Brantford aims to respond to feedback and questions in a timely manner, however because we cannot participate in all discussions, we use our judgement to determine which messages we will respond to.

The City’s social media pages are forums where we will post topics and updates on City activities and at times, also ask for your feedback. This information is collected to inform the development of policies and programs and sometimes Council decisions. We will strive to be current, responsive to comments that contain inaccurate or inappropriate content. The City encourages citizens to engage with our social media pages. To ensure that the conversation is a positive experience for everyone involved, comments, replies and all other content posted must be respectful, in addition to being relevant and related to the posted topic on the page. By posting comments on the City of Brantford’s social media pages, you agree to comply with these Terms of Use. Any content including but not limited to the following nature may be deleted and/or result in a ban from the City’s social media channels:

  • Offensive, profane, hateful, insulting, rude, abusive, aggressive, violent, obscene, explicit, pornographic or sexual content;
  • Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, age, creed, gender, marital status, socio-economic status, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation;
  • Content that encourages bullying, doxing, flaming, or shaming of another member of the public, members of Council and/or City staff
  • Provides the personal information of individuals;
  • Is for the purposes of promoting a candidate for municipal, provincial or federal election;
  • Personal attacks and/or defamatory statements;
  • Inflammatory statements;
  • Serious, unproven, unsupported, or inaccurate accusations;
  • Content for advertising/marketing purposes;
  • Content that conducts or encourages illegal activity;
  • Content that could compromise public safety, security or operations;
  • Content that may compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems;
  • Content that impersonates or misrepresents someone else;
  • Content containing spam or posted by anonymous or robot accounts; and,
  • Unintelligible messages.

Comments on social media pages are monitored by City staff and the City of Brantford reserves the right to remove all/any comments, including comments that violate these Terms of Use.
