Brantford Wastewater Treatment Plant New Effluent Pumping Station and Forcemain Study

The Project

The City of Brantford has initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to identify and evaluate alternative solutions for a new effluent pumping station and forcemain. The purpose of this project is to ensure continuous discharge capability under all influent flow and receiver water level conditions. In recent years, high water levels in the Grand River have impacted the operation of the Brantford Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

In 2020, the City of Brantford completed a feasibility study to explore options to ensure plant operations were not impacted by high water levels. Various alternative solutions were developed and evaluated, ultimately resulting in the preliminary recommendation to build a new pumping station and forcemain. This Study will evaluate the various alternatives for the new Effluent Pumping Station and Forcemain, which may include new construction on the existing property / within the existing easement.

The Process

This study is being conducted in accordance with Schedule ‘B’ requirements of the Municipal Engineers Association “Municipal Class Environmental Assessment” (October 2000, as recently amended in 2023) which is approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act.

Public Involvement

The City would like anyone with an interest in this study to have an opportunity to provide input, which will help the project team in the decision-making process. A Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held in early 2024 to share information regarding this study. This will include the issues and opportunities being addressed, study findings, and the evaluation of alternatives. Details regarding this future PIC will be advertised as the study progresses.
