Brantford Town and Gown Committee

The Town and Gown Committee is a collaboration between the City, Brantford post-secondary institutions, students, and local businesses and service providers. Its purpose is to strengthen relationships, address shared challenges, and develop initiatives that benefit both the community and post-secondary sector, supporting their social and economic well-being.

2026-2027 Action Plan

In the fall of 2025, the Town and Gown 2026-2027 Action Plan was created. It outlines four over-arching priorities and sixteen supporting actions including:

Attract Students
  • Consult with students about what they love about studying in Brantford and what would improve their experiences
  • Launch a ‘What I Love’ campaign to showcase the reasons students enjoy studying in Brantford
  • Jointly support the development local recruitment events, focused on secondary school students and other prospective post-secondary applicants
Create Desirable Student Experiences
  • Utilize survey results to learn how to best communicate with students and involve them in community events and programs as well as long-term community-based volunteer programs
  • Work together to promote inclusive and culturally safe spaces where all students feel welcome (including exploring current research and trends related to student experiences of discrimination and bias).
  • Review and update digital local resource guides to support students (ie: housing and tenant information)
  • Explore the Feasibility of a student discount program at local merchants
  • Jointly support the development of ‘weeknight’ events that would attract students
Keep Graduates in Brantford
  • Connect more students to local employment and volunteer options through local co-op, internship and placement programs
  • Connect more students with research opportunities through collaborative research projects
  • Consult with local business and service providers to better understand the current opportunities and challenges when hiring recent graduates, as well as current youth employment trends.
  • Seek out grants and other opportunities to support local research that helps connect recent graduates to the local job market
Keep Our Partnerships Strong
  • Create a report that highlight the economic and social contributions of the local post-secondary industry
  • Jointly advocate for funding and resources to support a strong, local post-secondary sector
  • Share information and resources to support joint advocacy and resource planning
  • Jointly promote events, amenities and activities for post-secondary students
