Accessibility Plan for the 2026 Election

The City of Brantford is committed to treating everyone in a way that respects dignity and independence. This includes ensuring municipal elections are accessible to all electors and candidates.

Following the 2022 Municipal Election, staff reviewed the accessibility measures used during the election. The 2022 Post Election Accessibility Report was prepared to identify barriers that affected electors and candidates, and to document steps taken to improve accessibility.

For the 2026 Municipal Election, the City will continue to improve accessibility by:

  • sharing key election information across multiple platforms
  • providing communications in alternative formats upon request
  • posting accessibility information for each voting location on the City of Brantford website
  • highlighting accessibility information on Voter Information Letters to support informed choice
  • using the “Vote Anywhere in Your Ward” model to provide flexibility in selecting a voting location
  • offering online voting
  • providing accessible voting equipment at in-person voting locations
  • continuing to welcome support persons and service animals at voting locations
  • working with community partners, including long-term care homes, retirement facilities, schools, and the Brantford Accessibility Advisory Committee (BAAC), to support electors

2026 Post-Election Accessibility Report

Within 90 days after voting day in a regular election, the Clerk must prepare a report on the identification, removal, and prevention of barriers that affect electors and candidates with disabilities. The report must be made available to the public.
