BRANTFORD, ON – The Medical Officer of Health (MOH) for Grand Erie Public Health is issuing a Cold Notification for the Grand Erie Public Health region (Brantford-Brant and Haldimand-Norfolk), effective January 14, 2026.
A Cold Notification is issued, by the MOH, when parts or all areas of the region are expected to reach temperatures below -15 ºC, or when wind chill values reach -20 ºC.

Mayor’s 2026 Budget reduces proposed tax increase while protecting essential services and prioritizing roads
Residents are reminded that there is an elevated risk of flooding during this time of year when conditions are favourable for increased runoff from rapid snowmelt and rainfall that can be blocked by ice jams. On January 6, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) issued a Flood Watch and Flood Outlook Statement for Brantford, indicating that mild and wet weather is expected to impact the watershed later this week as active weather systems move through the area.
BRANTFORD, ON – Construction continues as part of Phase 1 of the Downtown Revitalization Project, with underground infrastructure work progressing and traffic controls remaining in place along Icomm Drive between Brant Avenue and Clarence Street South. One lane remains open in each direction between Hill Street and Clarence Street South. Motorists are asked to follow posted signage and allow extra travel time.
The proposed amendment to both the Downtown Community Improvement Plan (CIP) and the Greyfields CIP has been initiated by the City of Brantford. The City is proposing to add a new “Vandalism Prevention Grant” program to each CIP to address and provide financial assistance to small businesses, places of worship, and non-profit organizations who are victims of acts of vandalism to promptly complete repairs and to implement anti-vandalism projects that will help to prevent future acts of vandalism. Program amendments address the scope and requirements for potential applicants, eligible costs, and grant payment terms.
The City of Brantford (City) has conducted a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) study for the Wayne Gretzky Parkway North Extension. A northern extension of the Wayne Gretzky Parkway was identified in the 2020 Transportation Master Plan (TMP) to provide optimization of the transportation network as an interregional travel route accessing the provincial highways to and from the north part of the City. Wayne Gretzky Parkway serves as a major north-south connection though the City. The corridor also conveys the traffic from downtown Brantford to Highway 403 and other major east-west transportation corridors.
After 37 years of dedicated service, Brian Wood, Curator of the Bell Homestead National Historic Site, will retire from the City of Brantford on January 30, 2026.
As of January 1, 2026, Brantford residents are able to place more items in their blue box for recycling. Circular Materials Ontario, a not-for-profit organization created by producers to operate Ontario’s Blue Box Program, is now standardizing the list of acceptable Blue Box items across the province.
