Elgin Street Multi-Use Path Project
Connecting our residential and industrial areas
The City of Brantford is proposing to construct a multi-use path (MUP) along Elgin Street from Wayne Gretzky Parkway to Garden Avenue. Elgin Street is identified in Brantford's Transportation Master Plan (TMP) as one of the many cycling corridors across the City.
These bike lanes will provide an east-west connection of residential and industrial areas from the Wayne Gretzky Parkway MUP to the Garden Avenue bike lanes. The City is working to create a comprehensive and connected cycling network and the addition of this MUP will support a safe road network and encourage cycling as a viable form of transportation.
What will these changes look like?
There will no modifications to private property, and traffic control at intersections along the corridor will remain the same.
Existing cross-section on Elgin Street
The current cross-section of Elgin Street consists of one 5 metre wide vehicle travel lane in each direction and cyclists have to share these lanes with motorists.
Proposed cross-section on Elgin Street
The proposed changes will not affect the vehicle travel lane widths. They will remain 5 metres wide. The addition of a 3.5 metre wide multi-use path will create better traffic flow for motorists, since motorists will no longer have to share the road with cyclists.
