Henry Street Bike Lane Project

Connecting the cycling networks

Our goal is to create an established cycling network to support a safer environment and encourage Active Transportation. Henry Street is identified in the City’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) as one of the many cycling corridors across Brantford. These bicycle lanes will provide a connection to the existing multi-use path on Henry Street, as well as the existing multi-use path on Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

What will these changes look like?

Curb to curb road widths will remain the same-there will be no modifications to sidewalks or private properties. Traffic control at intersections along the corridor will remain the same.

Existing cross-section on Henry Street

The existing cross-section of Henry Street

The current cross-section of Henry Street consists of two vehicle travel lanes in each direction approximately 3.4 metres wide. Cyclists have to share these lanes with motorists.

From Brock Street to Stanley Street/Bosworth Court

The proposed changes include one 1.5 metre wide bicycle lane and one 3.4 metre wide vehicular lane in each direction with a  3.3 metre wide dedicated two-way centre turn lane. Additionally, buffer lanes will be installed that physically separate cyclists from motorists to create a safer and more comfortable cycling environment.

From Stanley Street/Bosworth Court to Wayne Gretzky Parkway

Since traffic volumes are high on this section of roadway, a multi-use path is proposed in order to create a separate cycling space and to ensure there are no changes to the roadway configuration for this stretch of road.
