Ewing Drive Bike Lane Project

Connecting the cycling network to residential neighbourhoods

Our goal is to create an established cycling network to support a safer environment and encourage Active Transportation. Ewing Drive is identified in the City’s Transportation Master Plan (TMP) as one of the many cycling corridors across Brantford. The bike lanes on Ewing Drive will provide a necessary north-south connection of the other proposed facilities in 2022 including Balmoral Drive and Tollgate Road.

What will these changes look like?

Curb to curb road widths will remain the same-there will be no modifications to sidewalks or private properties. Traffic control at intersections along the corridor will remain the same.

Existing cross-section on Ewing Drive

The existing cross-section of Ewing Drive with one vehicle travel lane in each direction each 5.1 metres wide.

The current cross-section of Ewing Drive consists of one 5.15 metre wide vehicle travel lane in each direction. Cyclists have to share these lanes with motorists.

Proposed cross-section on Ewing Drive

The proposed cross-section of Ewing Drive with one vehicle travel lane in each direction each 3.3 metres wide and one bike lane in each direction each 1.8 metres wide

The proposed changes include one 1.9 metre wide bicycle lane and one 3.25 metre wide vehicular lane in each direction. Since the road narrows significantly on the bridge that crosses Highway 403, sharrows are proposed for that short section of roadway and motorists and cyclists will share the road.
