Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf course to host Junior Spring Classic Girls Championship

BRANTFORD, ON: The City of Brantford is thrilled to announce that the Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course will host Golf Ontario’s Junior Spring Classic Girls Championship from June 26 to 28, 2021.

“With the recent name change to Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course to honour our Lord Mayor, hosting this event is a natural fit to showcase our golf course and new clubhouse,” says Jeff Moore, PGA of Canada Head Professional and Business Manager of Golf Operations, City of Brantford. “We’re recognized as a leader in Junior Golf in Canada and our membership is thrilled for the club to host the championship and many have volunteered their services over the 3-day event to provide the competitors with a world-class championship experience.”

The championship is hosted every year over the Victoria Day long weekend in May and had to be postponed due to provincial regulations because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Junior Spring Classic Girls Championship features the top 60 Junior Girls in the province. The event is scheduled over three days with the top 60 playing on Saturday and Sunday and then the field is cut to the top 42 and ties for the final round on Monday. A past champion of this event includes Brantford’s own Nicole Vandermade.

Unfortunately, due to gathering restrictions in place, spectators are not invited to attend this event. Public health measures are in place to ensure the health and safety of participants and the community including enhanced disinfecting protocols and deep cleaning of equipment, physical distancing of 2 metres to be maintained at all times, face coverings required when inside and more.

The Walter Gretzky Municipal Golf Course, Banquet and Learning Centre offers a mature 18-hole championship layout featuring large greens, contoured fairways, white bunker sand, full pro-shop and clubhouse services including a refreshment cart on the course.
