Ava Rd Bridge northbound curb lane, sidewalk & underpass closed to protect public safety

Road closure

BRANTFORD, ON: The City of Brantford’s number one priority is protecting the health and safety of residents and visitors to our community. Based on a series of investigations conducted by structural engineering experts, today the City made the difficult but necessary decision to close the northbound Brant Avenue curb lane and sidewalk on the Ava Road Bridge as well as the Service Road under Brant Avenue/Ava Road Bridge. Investigations are on-going but have revealed extensive deterioration of the bridge, resulting in the need to close these access points to protect public safety.

The emergency lane closure, affecting the northbound curb lane directly over the CN tracks as well as the full closure of the Service Road underpass will remain in place until such time as the necessary repairs are completed.

A detour has been posted for local traffic via St. Paul Avenue, Dufferin Avenue and Parkside Drive. Access to/from Ava Road remains open to/from southbound Paris Road traffic only as well as Hardy Road and Parkside Drive access points.

Additional information regarding the duration of the emergency closure will be shared publicly in the coming days.
