Ava Road Bridge set to reopen to through traffic on June 13
BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford is pleased to announce the reopening of the Ava Road Bridge to through traffic as of Friday, June 13, 2025, weather permitting. This key milestone marks significant progress in the multi-phase Ava Road Bridge Rehabilitation Project, restoring a vital transportation connection for emergency services, transit vehicles, motorists and pedestrians. The bridge was closed in May 2024 to allow for critical infrastructure improvements within the Canadian National Railway (CNR) corridor.
While final construction work will continue in the area, the reopening includes one lane of traffic in each direction, along with pedestrian access on the newly constructed sidewalk. The bridge spans the CNR tracks and links Brant Avenue to Paris Road, serving as an essential route for motorists.
This partial reopening will significantly reduce traffic congestion caused by detours during the full bridge closure. With through access restored, Brantford Transit’s Northwest Industrial route will resume regular service. The reopening also enables emergency responders to once again use more direct and efficient routes across the bridge, further supporting timely service in the area.
The project is being delivered with financial support from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF), a program designed to help municipalities repair and rehabilitate core infrastructure. Through OCIF, the Government of Ontario contributed $8,028,000 towards the redevelopment of the Ava Road Bridge.
Final improvements to the bridge, including remaining concrete work and surface finishing, will continue over the coming months. Full completion of the project is expected later this year.
