Bell Homestead NHS offers several special events to enjoy this May

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford’s Bell Homestead National Historic Site (94 Tutela Heights Road), is pleased to announce the return of many popular special events happening in May, including Eliza’s Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, May is Museum Month Open House and the 29th Annual Barn Sale.

“May is an exciting time at the Bell Homestead!” says Brian Wood, Curator of the Bell Homestead National Historic Site. “May is also Museum Month in Ontario, and the Bell Homestead team looks forward to sharing stories with visitors of Alexander Graham Bell’s family, and how he came to invent the telephone in Brantford 150 years ago, as well as highlight the role museums make in creating meaningful experiences for everyone.”

Eliza Bell’s Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea, takes place on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Ticket holders can enjoy an elegant tea time that includes a scrumptious assortment of tea, sandwiches, scones, desserts and Mimosa cocktails, followed by a tour of Eliza Bell’s 1870’s home with the Brant 4H Bell Homestead Club in honour of Alexander Graham Bell’s mother. Cost is $45 per person, children ages 8 and under cost $15 including taxes.

May is Museum Month Open House takes place on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Visitors can enjoy a complimentary tour of the Bell Homestead in celebration of International Museums Day. Tours take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and must be pre-booked in advance. Limited space is available.

The 29th Annual Barn Sale, takes place on Saturday, May 25, 2023 from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Visitors will find lots of great bargains including household items, furniture, clothing and oddities galore. Admission is free with exception to the cost of purchasing items. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Bell Homestead’s community programs and preservation efforts. If residents have items to donate, they can be dropped off at the Bell Homestead between operating business hours or you can give them a call at 519-756-6220 or email bellhomestead@brantford.ca to arrange for pick-up of donated items.

The Exchange Café will be open to enjoy a variety of delicious home baked goods, ice-cream or beverages for these events. The Phone Booth Museum Store will also be open to purchase a souvenir, vintage item or gift.
