Brantford on track for record setting construction year

BRANTFORD, ON – Today, the City released its May 2020 Report on Construction Activity demonstrating a substantial construction value of $41.607 million for 94 issued permits. The construction value attained in May 2020 is more than three times the value attained in May 2019, and far exceeds the five-year average for construction value in the month of May.

The largest increase occurred in the Industrial Sector of construction with a total construction value of $26.049 million, compared $2.315 million in May 2019.
A significant increase also occurred in the Single Detached Dwellings (New) Sector of construction. This Sector had a total construction value of $13.565 million in May 2020, compared with $7.755 million in May 2019.

Other noteworthy permits issued in May include a partial permit for the construction of the site servicing, foundation and structural steel for a new truck storage garage for Brantford Power Incorporated at 150 Savannah Oaks Drive with a construction value of $6.000 million, a permit for a new warehouse building at 131 Savannah Oaks Drive with a construction value of $2.100 million and a permit for an addition to Grissin Bon Limited’s manufacturing building at 43 Roy Boulevard with a construction value of $1.609 million. In addition, permits were issued for four new Semi-Detached buildings (eight units in total) at various locations with a total construction value of $1.227 million.

The City’s year-to-date construction value of $143.569 million is more than double last year’s total of $65.666 million for the same period. For the year, a total of 430 building permits have been issued in Brantford.
