Brantford’s construction activity remains strong in November

BRANTFORD, ON – Today, the City of Brantford released its November 2019 Report on Construction Activity demonstrating a construction value of $16.980 million for 76 building permits issued. The City’s construction activity continues to grow with significant increases in the Industrial, Commercial, Residential (Accessory, Alterations, Additions) and Duplex, Triplex, Fourplex (new) Sectors last month, while surpassing the past five-year average for the month of November.

The largest increase was seen in the Industrial Sector of construction with a total of nine building permits issued, which had a total construction value of $13.102 million, compared with eight building permits in November 2018, at a construction value of $5.934 million. The largest valued permit was issued to Vicano Developments Limited, for the construction of a new 274,826 sq. ft. warehouse located at 185 Oak Park Road, which had a construction value of $10.00 million. The second largest building permit was also issued to Vicano Development Limited for the construction of the steel framing only for an additional 254,691 sq. ft. warehouse on the same site, with a construction value of $2.00 million.

Increases also occurred in the Commercial Sector with a total of eight building permits issued, for a total construction value of $1.740 million versus eleven building permits issued in November 2018 for a construction value of $0.301 million. The largest permit issued in this sector was for interior alterations at the Lynden Park Mall by IG Management Ltd. with a construction value of $1.00 million.

Other noteworthy building permits issued in November include a new building containing a gas bar and convenience store at 4 Sinclair Boulevard, which had a construction value of $0.650 million, and a permit issued to Brantford Power to complete interior alterations at 150 Savannah Oaks, which had a construction value of $0.50 million.

A total of 1,083 building permits have been issued to date this year, with a total construction value of $190.491 million, which is above last year’s to date total of $169.586 million for 1,009 issued permits.
