Building a better Brantford: Construction along Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Lynden Park Mall

WGP work area map

BRANTFORD, ON – Identified as an urban growth centre in the Ontario Places to Grow Act, Brantford is a rapidly growing city, undergoing exciting transformations. In addition to being an attractive community for business investment, the expansion of the City’s municipal boundaries is a key factor contributing to the City’s projected population growth. To better serve the needs of a growing population, many of the city’s popular and most frequently used service areas are expanding.

As a result of the Phase 1 expansion of Lynden Park Mall, beginning this week (June 26th), motorists on Wayne Gretzky Parkway will experience traffic disruptions (including intermittent lane closures during the scope of the project) from the Highway 403 interchange to the intersection of Edmondson Street and Wayne Gretzky Parkway (which is the main entrance to the Lynden Park Mall). This work is expected to be completed by the end of October, 2023.

The length of the project is due to the complexities of working along a major arterial road that carries high volumes of traffic, as well as the amount of necessary infrastructure required to be installed to support the Phase 1 expansion of the Lynden Park Mall. Motorists are strongly encouraged to reduce peak hour travel through the area when possible, or seek alternate travel routes to minimize delays. Pedestrian access at the Edmondson intersection will be maintained throughout the duration of the construction project as will access for emergency services.

The majority of the work will happen in the area of the Edmondson Street and Wayne Gretzky Parkway intersection and will include reconstruction of the traffic signals, extension of turn lanes, installation of median islands, relocation of street lighting, as well as sewer and road work. There will also be a new right in access to the mall site installed from Wayne Gretzky Parkway approximately 150 metres south of the Edmondson Street/Wayne Gretzky Parkway intersection. All impacted businesses in the area have been made aware of the project plans and are expected to remain open during the construction period.

For regular updates, residents are encouraged to subscribe to the City’s public notice updates on www.Brantford.ca/Subscribe to receive email notifications of lane and roadway closures.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and cooperation while the work to build a better Brantford takes place.
