Changes to Building Permit Fees

TAKE NOTICE that at the City of Brantford Committee of the Whole - Planning and Administration meeting to be held on the 11th day of June 2024, at 6 p.m. a report will be presented to consider proposed changes to building permit fees. This notification is in accordance with Section 7(6) of the Building Code Act.

PURPOSE AND EFFECT – Following a review of the building permit fees and the costs to administer the Building Code Act, the City of Brantford is proposing to amend the Fees and Charges By-law 21-2024 with respect to fees for the construction, demolition, change of use, occupancy, transfer of permits and inspections. The effect will be to amend the City of Brantford’s Fees and Charges Bylaw to add new fees for new classes of building permits, provide administrative fees for constructing without a permit as well as some minor housekeeping amendments to the Bylaw. No change to the amount of current fees is proposed, however indexing for annual inflation starting in 2025 is proposed.

Information will be available at the meeting on the estimated costs of enforcing and administering the Building Code Act, the amount of the proposed fee(s) and the rationale for changing (and/or imposing) fees.

ANY PERSON may attend the public meeting in person or virtually and/or make written or verbal representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed fees.
