City celebrates Seniors Month with free activities

Healthy Aging Passport

BRANTFORD, ON – To celebrate Seniors Month in June, the City is pleased to offer the first-ever Healthy Aging Passport to provide older adults with a wide variety of free activities, workshops and events to keep healthy and connected.

As part of Brantford’s Healthy Aging Plan, the City has partnered with 15 community organizations including; Brant Skills Centre, Brantford Public Library, the Grand River Council on Aging, Modo Yoga Brantford and many more to offer events such as educational workshops, fitness classes, yoga, socials, games and much more.

“The City is fortunate to have the support of our community partners to provide such a wide range of activities and events to celebrate Seniors Month,” says Pamela Pacheco, Manager of Community Partnerships, Community Programs and Social Development. “We’re excited to be able to provide a variety of activities where older adults can connect and participate in educational, social and recreational activities.”

Seniors Month provides the community with the opportunity to acknowledge and recognize the contributions that older adults have made and continue to make in our community. This year’s theme is Stay safe, active and connected. The Healthy Aging Passport aims to increase social participation, promote health and wellness, and highlight new and existing programs and activities for older adults within Brantford. Lucy Marco, President of the Grand River Council on Aging states, "the GRCOA applauds the City of Brantford for developing its Healthy Aging plan to include activities that encourage social participation by the older residents, even during the pandemic."

Prioritizing seniors' health and wellness, and reducing social isolation is a key component of the City of Brantford’s Healthy Aging Plan. These initiatives provide an opportunity for older adults to remain active and connected to our community, which can help to improve overall well-being.
