BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford, widely known for our diverse recreational facilities that cater to community clubs, minor sports associations, recreational leagues, private teams, and the broader community, invites the public to participate in a critical initiative with the objective of optimizing the use of Parks and Recreation public assets. The City is calling on residents and user groups to actively participate in shaping a comprehensive Parks and Recreation Allocation Policy, that will guide allocation of City-owned facilities.

The City recognizes the challenges posed by conflicting requests for facility space, whether it be for specific times, days, or particular facilities. To address this, the new Allocation Policy, once it is approved by Council, will include a detailed framework of standards and principles. This approach will help ensure a more fair and equitable distribution of spaces, enabling effective management of conflicting demands and maximizing the benefits for the community.

Residents and user groups are invited to share their valuable feedback to help shape the priorities, standards, and principles of the new Allocation Policy by visiting LetsTalkBrantford.ca/AllocationPolicy and completing the online survey before April 8, 2024.

In addition to the online survey, the City is pleased to offer a series of in-person focus group opportunities to further engage with the community and specific user groups as follows:

  • Saturday March 23rd – 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m., Lions Park Arena Auditorium, 20 Edge Street / All Invited

Director of Parks and Recreation, Rick Cox, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "our recreation facilities are vital community assets, and in our growing City there is often more demand than capacity, whether it is for fields, ice and pool time or gym space. By implementing a comprehensive Allocation Policy, our goal is to ensure fairness and transparency, as well as to give our staff team effective allocation tools to manage competing demands for City-owned facilities."
