City invites the community to celebrate culture

Celebrate Culture

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford’s Healthy Kids program, in collaboration with the Brantford Immigration Partnership, invites families to submit photographs and videos showcasing their culture in celebration of National Multiculturalism Day on Sunday, June 27, 2021.

“The City of Brantford is proud of our diverse and multicultural community,” says Bethany Letto, Community Development Coordinator. “We look forward to celebrating our multiculturalism by learning from our friends and neighbours.” There are many ways for individuals, families, and organizations to showcase their culture. Some ideas include; traditional foods or recipes, dances or celebrations, artwork, fashion, jewellery, and other traditions.

"Newcomers to Canada are a rich source of diverse knowledge and experience,” says Lily Lumsden, Senior Regional Manager, YMCA, and Co-chair of the Brantford Immigration Partnership. “By sharing food, music, art and other aspects of their culture, we benefit both individually and as a community. Multicultural activities fosters a sense of belonging enriches the lives of those who live in the city of Brantford."

The City is accepting photo and video submissions until Thursday, June 17, 2021. Each submission is entered for the chance to win one of 10 gift cards prizes from $50 to $100 in value. All submissions will also have the opportunity to be featured in a National Multiculturalism Day video the City will release on Friday, June 25, 2021. National Multiculturalism Day was designated in 2002 by the Government of Canada as an annual opportunity for all Canadians to celebrate the diversity of our country, our society and our communities; affirm our commitment to democracy, equality and mutual respect; and appreciate the many contributions made by the ethno cultural groups that make up Canadian society.
