City of Brantford to host Seniors Tech Fairs

BRANTFORD, ON – The City of Brantford has partnered with the Grand River Council on Aging and other local service providers to host drop-in workshops to help seniors learn how new technology can improve quality of life and assist with everyday activities.

“We want to support seniors with the opportunity to build their skills to utilize technology in helpful ways, such as accessing health information, finding ways to participate in the community, and staying in contact with loved ones through social media” says Gagan Batra, Community Development Coordinator for Health and Human Services at the City of Brantford.

Seniors Tech Fairs will have workshops and information for seniors to learn about different technology and digital skills, including:

  • How to use mobile phones and computers
  • How to use accessible technology for supporting those with visual and hearing impairments
  • Accessing online training and education opportunities
  • Navigating websites and online resources for information and online shopping
  • How to use fitness tracking technology
  • How to use social media to access fire safety tips and information during emergencies

Providing opportunities for seniors to participate in the community is a key focus of the City’s Healthy Aging Plan. The City of Brantford was recognized by the World Health Organization as an Age-Friendly community in 2017 and received the Ontario Age-Friendly Community Recognition Award in 2018. “We remain committed to connecting seniors with the programming and services they need to thrive in our community”, added Batra.

We encourage anyone who is interested in learning more about the many uses of technology to drop in to the Seniors Tech Fair.
