City to launch welcome passes for newcomers in 2020

Brantford, ON – The City of Brantford, in partnership with YMCA Immigrant Services, is launching a Welcome to Brantford pass on January 1, 2020 that invites all newcomers, whether they have recently moved to Brantford from another city or country, to explore their new home through discounted offerings.

“It is important that newcomers connect with the local community and events. By participating and engaging in all that Brantford has to offer, newcomers will truly feel at home,” says Lily Lumsden, Senior Regional Manager, YMCA of Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford.

Since 2003, the City of Brantford Tourism Division has offered a Relocation Package Program that includes an outdoor adventure (trail) map, Road and Transit Route Map, and several brochures of the area including: Sanderson Centre, Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, Explore the Grand Visitor Guide, What’s On Festivals & Events, and more.

Tourism Brantford has enhanced this program by including a Welcome Pass within the package that will be available as of January 1, 2020.

The new pass includes one-time discounts to services at six City owned facilities, including: Arrowdale Municipal Golf Course (2020 season), Bell Homestead National Historic Site, Brantford Visitor and Tourism Centre merchandise, Earl Haig Family Fun Park, Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, and Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre.

“The welcome pass includes discounts and special offers to several attractions in Brantford and encourages new residents to get out and explore their new community in a cost-effective way,” says Kara Davey, Tourism Marketing Coordinator, City of Brantford. “We hope the pass will allow newcomers to learn about their new community by visiting some of our iconic locations such as the Bell Homestead, Sanderson Centre and Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre.”

Brantford has proven to be a desirable place to live, work, and play with a growing population of over 97,000 residents, with almost 1,000 new residents arriving each year. The City invites all newcomers to pick up their Welcome to Brantford package by visiting the Brantford Visitor and Tourism Centre at 399 Wayne Gretzky Parkway, or the YMCA Immigrant Services at 38 Darling St. Suite 201, or by calling 519-751-9900 for more information.
