City to transfer lands to BCHS to be used for new hospital build

BRANTFORD, ON – On March 9th, the province announced that the Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) had been granted permission to move to Stage 1 for the planning of a new hospital in Brantford. BCHS is now in the process of creating a plan to redevelop and expand the Brantford General Hospital, located at 200 Terrace Hill Street, Brantford.

Last week, Mayor Kevin Davis signed a lease agreement that will see the City defer costs to lease the lands formerly occupied by Fire Station 2 and a parking lot at 311 St. Paul Ave, to the Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS), to be repurposed as part of the new hospital build. The lands, planned to be the site of a brand-new, 9-story, 440-bed patient tower, will eventually be transferred to BCHS as part of the final stage of the new build process.

This location was chosen especially for its proximity to the Hospital’s existing infrastructure, meaning the work going into redevelopment of the Emergency Department and all viable parts of the original Brantford General Hospital that can be repurposed to better serve the community.

Quotes

“I am grateful to the province for their approval to move to Stage 1 of the planning process and to BCHS for successfully advocating for a new hospital in Brantford. The new facility will be built to meet the growing and vital need to improve care delivery for the people of Brantford, as well as in surrounding communities including the County of Brant and Six Nations of the Grand River. The City is very proud to play a part in supporting this very important development.”

- City of Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis

“The lease arrangement and future land transfer are critical to the redevelopment of the Brant Community Health System.  We are grateful to City Council and the leadership of Mayor Kevin Davis for this most generous investment in the redevelopment of a new Hospital to ensure that those in the communities we serve have access to modern state of the art hospital care well into the future.”
