City’s permit activity remains strong in March

Construction continues to see significant growth

BRANTFORD, ON – Today, the City released its March 2020 Report on Construction Activity demonstrating a construction value of $32.949 million for 69 issued permits. The construction value in March is more than the value attained for the month in 2019 and is the highest construction value for the month of March in the last five-years.

The largest increase occurred in the Multiple Residential (New) Sector of construction. A total of three building permits were issued for new multiple residential dwellings with a total construction value of $28.703 million, compared with March 2019, when there were no building permits issued. The large increase was due to a building permit issued for the construction of a new six story, 132-unit apartment building at 232 Grand River Ave with a construction value of $25 million.

Significant increases also occurred in the Institutional & Government Sector of construction. A total of three building permits were issued with a total construction value of $1.958 million, which is an increase over five building permits issued in March 2019 with a total construction value of $0.407 million.

Other noteworthy permits issued in March include a permit to construct an addition to Central School, a Grand Erie District School Board elementary school located at 135 George Street with a construction value of $1.700 million, and two permits issued to LIV Developments for townhouse blocks on Bilanski Farm Road valued at $2.135 million and $1.568 million.

The City’s year-to-date construction value of $93.899 million is more than double last year’s total of $43.507 million. For the year, a total of 288 building permits have been issued, which is an increase from 263 permits issued in 2019 over the same period.
