Environmental Reminder to Residents

Brantford City Hall

Residents are reminded that Brantford storm sewer inlets and catch basins located along roadways and in parking lots are strictly intended for the collection of rainwater and snowmelt only. It is important to recognize that these drains discharge directly into local watercourses without any form of treatment.

The following are examples of materials that should never be disposed of in catch basins or sanitary sewers:

  • Concrete wash water
  • Fuels
  • Paints
  • Animal droppings
  • Lawn and garden waste
  • Cooking grease
  • Motor oils

The disposal of the above hazardous items may interfere with the operation of the wastewater treatment facility. Residents are asked to store and bring materials that cannot be placed in the garbage to a Household Hazardous Waste Day event at the Mohawk Street Landfill Site later in the year. Please check the City’s website regularly for the future availability of this event.

Any inquiries concerning the use of the City of Brantford sewer systems or the correct disposal of materials can be directed to the City's Wastewater Compliance section at 519-759-4150 Ext. 5594.
